Baltimore, Md. - Sophomore Linton Hinds scored a career-high 13 points as Loyola capped the 2003-04 regular season with an 81-53 loss to Iona. The Gaels shoot 56 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range while the 'Hounds struggle to get anything going. Loyola will take the No. 10 seed into the conference tournament this weekend in Albany.
Lindbergh Chatman began the game with an offensive putback and a deep three-pointer to give Loyola a 5-2 advantage. Iona raced ahead with a 24-2 run and took control of the game. A 5-0 Greyhound run to end the first half made the score 43-24 at intermission.
Iona's lead ballooned in the second half with 50 percent shooting from three-point range. Steve Burtt scored 20 points for the Gaels, who also caused 18 Loyola turnovers. Charlie Bell scored 14 for the 'Hounds, pulling down four rebounds and registering two steals.
Chatman finished with seven points while Bernard Allen had a team-high seven rebounds in the loss. The Greyhounds close the season with an overall record of 1-26 and will take the No.10 seed into this weekend's MAAC tournament in Albany, N.Y. Iona, at 8-10 in the MAAC (10-17 overall), earns the No. 7 seed and will face No. 8 Canisius on Friday.
Loyola will face No. 5 Rider in Round One. That game is slated for a 4:30 p.m. at the Pepsi Arena.
