Colgate Breaks Open Game With First-Half Run Versus Men's Hoops

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Denzel Brito gave Loyola University Maryland a 25-24 lead with just under seven minutes to play in the first half, but Colgate University closed the half on a 20-5 run, and the Raiders beat the Greyhounds, 84-60, in Patriot League action Saturday afternoon.

Brito's three marked the fourth lead change of the game, but Murphy Burnatowski made it five when he hit a three for Colgate (10-17 overall, 4-12 Patriot League) with 6:03 left in the half. His basket, three of his 15 points, started the run in which the Raiders made 8-of-10 shots.

Colgate shot 60.4 percent (32-of-53) from the field and made 12-of-18 from behind the 3-point arc (66.7 percent) in the game.

Conversely, during the run that fed the Radiers' 14-point halftime advantage, Loyola was 2-of-8 and committed three turnovers.

The second half did not start any better for the Greyhounds (10-17, 5-11), as Colgate went up 20 for the first time on a Burnatowski layup 3:17 into the stanza.

Ethan Jacobs led Colgate with 20 points, going 8-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Austin Tillotson added 17 points and seven assists, while Burnatowski tallied 15.

R.J .Williams scored a career-high 16 points for Loyola, making 6-of-11 shots from the field. Jarred Jones added 10 points for the Greyhounds. Tyler Hubbard added nine points, but all came on first-half threes.

Loyola is in action again at home on Wednesday, February 26, when it hosts College of the Holy Cross at 7:30 p.m.
