Lawrenceville, N.J. - Rider senior center Jason Thompson scored 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and the Broncs' defense forced 20 Loyola turnovers as Rider collected an 81-67 MAAC home victory Sunday afternoon and Alumni Gymnasium. The win moved the Broncs ahead of the Greyhounds in the MAAC standings as Rider improved to 11-6, 402 in conference play. The Greyhounds fell to 7-10, 3-3 in the MAAC.

"We were coming off an emotional win and we had some chances, we just couldn't finish," Loyola fourth-year head coach Jimmy Patsos said. "They outworked us in the second half and got some second shots to start it. We were a little unemotional in the second half."

After the game was tied at 6-6 three minutes in, Rider went on an 18-5 run to take a 24-11 lead with 8:17 left in the half as Thompson scored nine of the points and assisted on two other baskets. The Greyhounds responded with a 19-5 stretch of their own to take a 34-33 lead with 3:08 remaining on a layup from senior forward Michael Tuck.

Loyola grabbed its last lead of the game at 37-36 when junior forward Dan Ficke converted a conventional three-point play with 90 seconds left in the half. The Broncs then scored 15 of the game's next 17 points over the next 5:05, building a 51-39 advantage with 16:25 remaining. Rider would build its lead to as many as 18 with 10:15 left in the game and Loyola could get no closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Thompson added five blocks and four assists to his gaudy point and rebounding figures, leading four Rider players in double figures. Younger brother Ryan Thompson added 16 points, making seven of his 11 attempts from the floor. Harris Mansell scored 13 and Mike Ringgold chipped in with 12.

Loyola was led by senior guard Gerald Brown's 20 points. Tuck and junior guard Marquis Sullivan each scored 10 for the Greyhounds' only other double-digit scorers. Starting backcourt mates Brett Harvey and Brian Rudolph each scored nine with Harvey adding seven assists with no turnovers.

The Greyhounds return to action Thursday when they host Marist at Reitz Arena. Tip time is 8 o'clock.
