BALTIMORE, Md. - After nearly two weeks away from competition, the Greyhound men's and women's cross country teams return to action this Friday at the 2005 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, New York.
The Greyhounds are coming off fourth place finishes at the Gettysburg Invitational on October 15. Senior Caitlin Dunne earned her first victory of the season in the women's race with a time of 22:05.37 to help the Greyhound women while sophomore Brian Parker finished in eighth place to lead the men's team.
Dunne has led the women's team for most of the season, producing four Top 10 finishes and three Top 5 results. Before the win at Gettysburg, Dunne's top finish was a third place showing at the Mount St. Mary's Duals in the season opener.
Parker and junior Brendan O'Kane have paced the Greyhound men this season. Parker finished in 23rd place at the National Catholic Cross Country Championships in September before putting together his eighth place showing in the Gettysburg meet two weeks ago. Meanwhile, O'Kane finished in 12th place at the Mount St. Mary's Duals in early September as the Greyhounds opened the season with a pair of wins.
The Greyhound women finished in third place at last year's MAAC Championships behind Marist and Iona, while the men's team earned a fourth place finish behind Iona, Manhattan and Marist. James daSilva led the Loyola men with a 22nd place finish, completing the course in a time of 26:41.11. O'Kane earned 27th place with a time of 27:08.40.
On the women's side, Andrea Rovegno finished in second place in the race behind Iona's Emily Chelanga, who finished the course in a time of 20:39.54.
The women's 6,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. with the men's race to follow at approximately 3:10 p.m.
