June 3, 2010

BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland men's cross country runner Tim Burns was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District II First Team on Thursday.

Burns, who has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a mechanical engineering major through his first three years at Loyola, is now eligible for Academic All-America honors that will be voted upon in the coming weeks.

As a junior, Burns finished 52nd at the 2009 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships for the Greyhounds. He also took a 53rd-place finish at the Navy Invitational.

He was a MAAC All-Academic honoree and a member of Loyola's Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Burns was one of 10 cross country and track and field student-athletes named to the Academic All-District II First Team. To be eligible for nomination, candidates must have at least a 3.30 grade point average and sophomore standing at their institutions.

District II encompasses all NCAA Division I schools in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
