Cross Country Alumnus Qualifies For 2016 Olympic Trials

BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland men's cross country alumnus Gian-Paul Caccia recently qualified for the 2016 United States Olympic Marathon Trials, recording a time of 1:04:55 at the U.S. Track and Field Half Marathon Championship in Houston, Texas.

Caccia finished 47th out of 78 participants, coming in under the Olympic Qualifying time of 1:05:00.

"I knew I was cutting it close, but I was happy to share the excitement with my New York Athletic Club teammates who also qualified," Caccia said.

The New York City native is no stranger to the Olympic Trials. In 2011, Caccia qualified for the 2012 USA Olympic Marathon Trials at the 2011 New York City Half Marathon with a time of 1:04:46. In his Olympic Trial debut, Caccia placed 71st overall with a time of 2:22:30.

Caccia graduated from Loyola in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and master's degree in finance two years later.

The U.S. Marathon Olympic Team Trials will take place on February 13, 2016, in Los Angeles, California.
