BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Junior Andrea Rovegno and senior Caitlin Dunne finished in the top 15 individuals to earn All-Region honors as the Greyhound women's cross country team finished in 12th place at the 2005 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Cross Country Regionals at Lehigh University on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, junior Brendan O'Kane led the Greyhound men to a 19th place finish with a 10K school record time of 32:13.4, shattering the previous mark held by James daSilva last season. He finished in 70th place overall.
"The men's and women's teams had outstanding performances today," Coach Rick Woods said. "This was a great outing for both teams and a great way to rebound after the MAAC Championships."
Rovegno set a school record in a 6K race by finishing in 10th place with a time of 21:01.9, breaking the previous mark set in 2002 by Jackie Truncellito . Meanwhile, Dunne earned 13th place overall by completing the course with a time of 21:06.4, which ranks third on the school's top 10 all-time list.
Freshman Elizabeth Norrish earned 102nd place for the Greyhounds with a time of 23:08.9 while junior Sarah Spencer and freshman Maureen Wynne rounded out the scoring by finishing in 113th and 115th places, respectively.
O'Kane was one of three Loyola men's runners to break the previous record as freshman Chris Heibell earned 90th place with a time of 32:36.6 and sophomore Brian Parker finished with a time of 32:50.8 to earn 106th place. Freshman Brian Scullin finished as the Greyhounds' fourth scorer with a mark of 34:10.8, which was good for 141th place, while senior Pat Rice rounded out the scoring with a 154th place showing.
"[The meet] was a great finish to the season," Woods said. "This was the meet we wanted to measure our season on and both teams did a lot better than anyone could have expected. I couldn't be any happier to see how these teams finished."
The Greyhounds conclude the season next Saturday afternoon with the ECAC Championships in Van Cortlandt Park, New York.
