EASTON, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland women's cross country runner Kiera Harrison became the first Greyhound to medal in a Patriot League Championship event, taking second at the league's cross country championships Saturday morning.
Harrison's second-place finish helped the women's team to ninth place with 211 points, as the men also took ninth among the ten Patriot League teams, totaling 279 points.
Navy took the men's team title with 61 points and were followed by Lehigh (63), American (66), Army (72), Boston University (112), Bucknell (143), Holy Cross (230), Colgate (249) and the Greyhounds. Following Loyola was championship host Lafayette College. Boston University took the women's team title with 47 point and they were followed by Lehigh (57), Navy (81), Bucknell (106), Army (140), American (160), Holy Cross (182), Lafayette (183) and the Greyhounds. Loyola defeated the Colgate Raiders who rounded out the meet with 294 points.
For the second straight meet, Harrison led Loyola in a time of 21:47.63. Finishing behind Harrison was junior Anna Bosse, placing 28th in 23:09.91.
Junior Kelly Maguire and sophomore Erica Canas took third and fourth for Loyola in 24:29.86 and 24:41.93, respectively, good for 72nd and 75th place overall. Rounding out the top five was Sara Gilson, who crossed the finish line in 25:23.07, good for 89th overall.
Sophomore Patrick Makles led the men's team, crossing the finish line with a time of 27:53.58, good enough for 68th place.
Nicholas Barletta (91st, 28:42.53), Jonathan Muavero (98th, 29:21.68), Brad Beard (99th, 29:33.98), Zachery Nerenberg (100th, 29:38.17), Giles Mosher (101st, 29:45.92), Michael O'Donnell (104th, 30:07.47) and Chris O'Brien (106th, 31:00.84) were the other Greyhound finishers.
Loyola has two weeks to prepare before travelling to Bethlehem, Pa., on Friday, Nov. 15, for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
