HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2015 Patriot League Championships Saturday afternoon hosted by Colgate University.
The women's team finished eighth with 195 points, while the men's squad compiled 274 to finish 10th.
Freshman Christina Daniels led the women's squad, taking 27th overall and finishing with a time of 22:34.0.
"Christina ran a smart race and really set the tone for the rest of the team," head coach Amy Horst said. "Three of our top-five finishers were underclassmen, so I'm really excited about the future of this squad."
Senior Erica Canas finished only four seconds behind Daniels, taking 28th in 22:38.4.
Freshman Mary Sutton was Loyola's third runner to cross the finish line, coming in 38th with a time of 23:15.1, before junior Sarah Askine (47th, 23:36.0) and sophomore Kendyl Fahmy (55th, 23:44.5) closed out the Greyhounds' scoring effort.
Junior Caitlyn McGuinness (69th, 24:50.8), freshman Courtney Wallace (70th, 24:57.3), senior Sara Gilson (99th, 25:12.8), junior Emily Richards (107th, 26:42.7), sophomore Casie Morgan (108th, 26:57.6) and freshman Gabrielle Silvestri (109th, 27:05.3) also competed for Loyola.
On the men's side, junior Chris Regan led the Greyhounds, finishing among the top-50 Patriot League competitors with a time of 26:38.6. Regan took 45th overall, while sophomore Alex Saffadi finished 48th with a time of 26:49.2.
"The men's race was very challenging and I'm proud of the team's effort," Horst said. "We're much more competitive in our races and know we have some work to do moving forward."
Junior Kevin Montgomery finished 56th, crossing the finish line in 27:20.3, while junior Brad Beard and sophomore John Miller rounded out Loyola's top-five finishers. Beard came in 61st with a time of 27:38.0, while Miller took 64th in 28:04.4.
Junior Tom Porth (65th, 28:05.5), freshman Ben Hosford (67th, 28:19.3), freshman Alex Buchholz (92nd, 28:46.0), junior Michael Michon (93rd, 28:54.2), freshman Tyler Schoch (94th, 29:00.2), freshman Leo Catinella (95th, 29:03.8) and freshman Edward Leonard (97th, 30:16.7) also raced Saturday afternoon.
Loyola returns to action Friday, Nov. 13, at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships hosted by Princeton University. The men will compete in a 10k race, while the women continue racing the 6k.
