LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Led by two top 10 finishes, the Loyola University Maryland women's cross country team finished fourth, while the men placed 10th in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships at Hess Fields at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
Iona took both the men's and women's individual titles, as well as the men's and women's team MAAC championships.
Jackie D'Antonio and Kiera Harrison finished in the top 10, helping the women take their 12th consecutive top-four finish at the conference meet. The Greyhounds finished with 95 points behind Rider (83 points), Marist (65 points), and Iona (26 points).
D'Antonio was the top Greyhound finisher with a time of 21:39, good enough for a fourth place finish. Harrison was not far behind with an eighth place finish.
Sophomore Anna Bosse finished in the top 20 with an 18th place finish. Teammate Emily Rooney ended the race in 25th (23:05), Calli Pappas finished the meet 44th (23:50), and Erica Canas recorded a 51st place finish (24:03). Sophomore Kelly Maguire rounded out the scorers with a time of 24:11, and a 53rd place.
On the men's side, the team finished tenth with 285 points, just two points behind Saint Peter's with 283 points.
In his first MAAC Championship appearance, Patrick Makles was the top men's finisher in 60th place, with a time of 26:43. DJ Puleo, Tyler Ems, Christopher O'Brien, Ryan Blake, Giles Mosher, and Christopher Graham were the top point scorers for the Greyhounds.
Puleo was named to the men's MAAC All-Academic team with a 3.22 GPA for the 2012 season. Seven women from Loyola were named to the women's MAAC All-Academic team. Lauren Puleo, Bosse, D'Antonio, Mary DeGregorio, Margaret Larkin, Rachel Nerenberg, and Jessica Peters made the team with a combined GPA team average of 3.51.
The Greyhounds will be back in action on November 10 in State College, Pa., to compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
