Women's Cross Country Takes Third; Men Finish Fourth At MAAC Championships

Van Cortlandt Park, N.Y. - The Loyola College women's cross country team took third overall, while the men finished fourth at the MAAC Championships in Van Cortlandt Park on Friday afternoon. Nationally-ranked Iona College won both races to sweep the conference crowns.

The Greyhound women had two Top-10 finishers and were led by junior Maureen Wynne, who took seventh overall in 23:15. Freshman Lindsay Wilson finished six second back of Wynne to place 10th in 23:21.

Loyola junior Alexandra Salani ran the course in 23:50 for her 18th-place showing, while freshman Kate Cervo (25th) and senior Bethany Gentry (35th) rounded out the Loyola scorers.

In the men's race, junior standout Chris Heibell took ninth on the 8K track with a time of 25:44. He was followed by sophomore Dan McDevitt (26:47) and junior Keith Forlenza (27:03) who took 19th and 24th places respectively.

Senior captain Brian Parker finished 26th in 27:08, while sophomore Terry Moran finished 29th in 27:16 to round out the Loyola scoring with five Top-30 runners.

Iona won the men's meet with 17 points, while Marist and Rider rounded out the top three with 61 and 103 points. The Greyhounds were four points out of third with 107 for the meet.

The women scored 95 points, behind first-place Iona's 24 and second-place Manhattan's 75.

The NCAA Regionals will be run November 10 in Bethlehem, Pa.
