Harrison Claims First Career Win At The Leopard Invitational

EASTON, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland women's cross country runner Kiera Harrison won the 2013 Leopard Invitational, hosted by fellow Patriot League school Lafayette College, on Saturday morning.

Harrison covered the 6k course in 21:44.87 to become the second Greyhound to win a meet in as many years. Jackie D'Antonio, a 2013 alumna, won the Tribe Open last season in Williamsburg, Va.

Harrison put a more than a 36-second gap between herself and the second-place finisher, American's Julia Sullivan, who checked in at 22:21.26.

With the win, Harrison led the Loyola women to an eighth-place finish with 200 points. American won the meet with 55 points, while Bucknell took second with 82 points. Lafayette (141 points), The College of New Jersey (145 points) and Cortland State (153 points) rounded out the top five, respectively.  

Anna Bosse was the second Greyhound to come across the line, finishing in 23:12.48 and 23rd overall. Sara Gilson was 69th in 24:22.15, while Erica Canas placed 72nd in 24:26.00.

Kelly Maguire (83rd, 24:41.49), Jessica Peters (87th, 24:50.37) and Caitlyn McGuinness (127th, 25:57.00) rounded out the scoring squad for Loyola.

Kayla Parlavecchiio (129th, 25:58.83), Rachel Nerenberg (148th, 27:07.55), Mary DeGregorio (161st, 28:06.80) and Emily Richards (164th, 28:56.69) were the other Greyhounds finishers.

The men claimed 10th at the meet with 281 points, just ahead of Lafayette (310 points) and Kutztown (342 points). American's Nicholas Regan won the men's race and helped the Eagles (21 points) take first place, crossing the finish line in 25:24.50.

For the fourth-consecutive outing, rookie Chris Regan was the top male finisher for the Greyhounds, covering the five-mile course in 27:43.03. His time was good enough for 63rd.

Regan edged classmate Kevin Montgomery by only five seconds (68th, 27:48.10) and sophomore Patrick Makles by just over 10 seconds (74th, 27:54.25). 

Sam Ballard (93rd, 28:27.25), Michael Michon (94th, 28:27.96), Nick Barletta (106th, 28:46.22) and Brad Beard (110th, 28:55.99) rounded out the men's scoring effort.

The Greyhounds travel back to Easton, Pa., for their first-ever Patiot League Championship appearance, on Saturday, Nov. 2.
