Canas And Regan Pace Cross Country Teams At The Princeton Invite

Oct. 18, 2014 PRINCETON, N.J. - The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday.

The women's team finished 31st with 797 points, and the men were 36th with 1,067 points.

Villanova swept the team titles, while Virginia Tech and the University of Pennsylvania took second and third, respectively, in both races. On the men's side, fellow Patriot League-foe Bucknell University finished fourth with 179 points, while the Bisons' women's squad took fifth with 210 points.

Erica Canas led the pack for Loyola with a 100th-place finish and a time of 23:14. Senior Kelly Maguire took second for the Greyhounds, finishing 146th in 23:44.

Senior Anna Bosse crossed the finish line in 24:02, taking 171st out of 278 competitors. Caitlyn McGuinness and Sara Gilson were the final two Greyhounds to contribute points to the team total. McGuinness took 233rd with a time of 25:10, while Gilson (238th) came in 11 seconds later.

Kendyl Fahmy (246th, 25:30), Megan Ritz (257th, 26:07), Olivia Sbrocco (261st, 26:15) and Daniella Joyce (271st, 28:26) also competed Saturday.

For the third-straight meet, sophomore Chris Regan paced the men's team. He finished in 198th place, covering the 8k course in 26:33. Freshman Alex Saffadi finished 231st, recording a race time of 27:08.

Junior Chris O'Brien (256th) and sophomore Michael Michon (259th) crossed the finish line within six seconds of each other, recording times of 27:32 and 27:38, respectively. Rounding out the scorers for Loyola was sophomore Tom Porth (283rd) in 28:20.

Sophomore Brad Beard (287th, 28:36) also raced at the invitational.

Saturday, Nov. 1, Loyola travels to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to compete in the 2014 Patriot League Cross Country Championships. The women's 6k race will commence at 11 a.m., while the 8k men's race will start at noon.
