Heibell, McNamara Lead Greyhounds At Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Loyola College senior Chris Heibell covered the 8,000-meter course in 24:58 to finish 81st overall and lead the Greyhounds men's team at the 2008 Brooks/Paul Short Run on Friday morning.

Courtney McNamara was the top women's finisher in 108th place, finishing the 6,000-meter course in 22:16.

As a team, the Loyola men placed 31st out of 45 teams, while the women took 32nd out of 43, many of which were ranked nationally.

"This was the best Paul Short that we've ever run in," Head Coach Rick Woods said. "There were some unbelievable teams in it, but we did very well, Just about everyone in our top seven had personal-best times today."

For the women, Kate Cervo took 117th in 22:25, while Maureen Wynne and Stephanie Gibney ran a solid team race, placing 184th and 190th, respectively, in 23:09 and 23:12.

Amanda Bossi was 207th to complete Loyola's scoring in 23:20. Alex Salani added a time of 23:32 to place 223rd, and Emily Doucette was 246th in 23:53.

Dan McDevitt was the second finisher for Loyola, placing 126th overall in 25:25. Steve Febish and Keith Forlenza took 206th and 207th, respectively, in 26:14 and 26:15.

Jonathan Verrengia placed 234th in 26:45 to round out Loyola's scoring. Kieran Dowling and Matt Hassett were 246th and 275th, running times of 26:58 and 27:49.

The Greyhounds take a week off before returning to competition on Saturday, October 18, at the Princeton Invitational.
