Sept. 30, 2006

Van Cortlandt Park, N.Y. - The Loyola men's and women's cross country teams posted solid results at the Iona Meet of Champions in Van Cortlandt Park, N.Y. on Saturday morning. The women, without senior captain Andrea Rovegno, placed 13th overall while the men finished eighth out of 25 teams.

Leading the men once again was junior Gian Caccia, last week's MAAC Runner of the Week. Caccia led the `Hounds with his 28th-place showing and a time of 25:49. Close behind were sophomore Chris Heibell in 35th place with a time of 26:03 and junior Brian Parker in 44th place with a time of 26:25.

"Great showing by our men today," says Head Coach Rick Woods. "Having three guys under 27 minutes was very nice to see. I'm very encouraged for what this may mean at the MAAC Championships."

Rounding out the men's scoring were freshman Terry Moran in 69th place and junior Andrew Rice in 72nd place overall. Iona won the men's race with Brown taking second and Boston College placing third.

On the women's side, sophomore Maureen Wynne led the way with her 64th-place showing. Senior Colleen Depman was right on her heels, finishing 66th while sophomore Kaitlin Beckert came on as Loyola's third scorer. Seniors Sarah Spencer and Michelle McVann rounded out the scoring for the `Hounds.

Iona was also victorious on the women's side with Boston College and Cornell rounding out the top three. The Greyhounds resume competition at the Gettysburg Invitational in Gettysburg, Pa. on Saturday, October 14.
