Sept. 1, 2006
Emmitsburg, Md. - Running primarily underclassmen, the Loyola cross country teams posted good results at Mount St. Mary's to open the 2006 season. The women, led by Maureen Wahl's sixth-place finish, defeated the host Mountaineers and George Washington while the men defeated the Colonials in the five-team race.
"Considering the horrible weather conditions, we ran very well," says Head Coach Rick Woods. "It was a good meet for our freshmen and we're excited about the way they performed."
Placing 10th overall and second to Wahl on the women's side was Alexandra Salani, who finished in 6:45.5, while Alex Beaver finished 11th in 20:34.57. Beaver's finish was all the more impressive considering she took a bad fall on the bridge and had to make up time down the stretch.
"Terry and Dan worked well together," added Woods. "They ran excellent in their first college race."
"I'm happy with today's result," says Woods. "But we're really looking forward to Navy to see what these guys can do."
The Greyhounds return to action on Saturday, September 16 at the United States Naval Academy.
