LUTHERVILLE, Md. - Loyola's Bobby Gorczakowski was the last man standing Sunday, at the Green Spring Racquet Club, when he defeated local player Nevins Todd 7-5, 6-3 for the Green Spring Men's Open title.
The freshman out of Basking Ridge, N.J., advanced through rounds of 32, 16, quarterfinals and semifinals, winning three matches to advance to the finals.
Gorczakowski started off the event defeating Harrison F. Kunkel 6-2, 6-1. He then defeated John Healy 6-3, 6-3, before winning his semifinal tilt 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 against teammate Dan D'Agostino.
The event, which began back on Jan. 30, featured seven other Loyola men's players and four Loyola doubles teams.
D'Agostino advanced the farthest, making it to the semifinals. Last year's leader in singles wins opened the event with an intense match against Joshua M. Rodriguez. D'Agostino won 7-6 (8), 5-7, 12-10 to advance to the quarterfinals, where he won by default after his opponent, Gordon T. Hammersley withdrew citing emergency.
In doubles, D'Agostino advanced to the semifinals with partner Jamie Russo. The duo won their first match 8-1 before falling to John Healy and Colin A. Johns
