ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Tyler Blessing and Greg Olesnycky combined to win a doubles title, and Blest Jones took a singles crown for the Loyola University Maryland men's tennis teams this weekend at the Navy Invitational.
Blessing and Olesnycky went 3-0 in their doubles flight, and Jones went undefeated in as many singles matches in his flight, to capture their respective titles.
From Friday through Sunday, the Greyhounds played counterparts from the U.S. Naval Academy, Saint Joseph's University, UMBC and Duquesne University.
The Greyhounds opened the weekend Friday against Duquense and Navy, with Jones beating the Dukes' Dane Bendel, 6-3, 6-1. Reid Burch and C.J. Cash also had singles wins for the Greyhounds. Burch defeated Duquesne's Drew Akins, 7-5, 6-4, and Cash was a winner over Seth McNair of the U.S. Naval Academy.
In doubles action against Navy, Blessing and Olesnycky beat Alex Gaines and and Cameron Kirkpatrick, 6-3.
On Saturday against Saint Joseph's and Navy, the Greyhounds tallied three victories. Blessing and Olesnycky beat the Hawks' Sam Caldwell and Grant Boyle, 6-4, in doubles action. Jones and Brett Shriver also notched a doubles victory, besting Kyle Chambers and Pete Dewitt, 6-2.
Jones was a 6-4, 7-5, winner over Navy's Joshua Martin, as well.
The Greyhounds then faced players from UMBC and Navy on Sunday. Blessing and Olesnycky beat a mixed pair of Navy's Jacob Witt and the Retrievers' Vijay Golla, 6-2.
In singles play, Jones rallied to beat UMBC's Kevin Hseih, 0-6, 7-5, 6-3, and Cash was a 7-5, 6-4, winner over the Midshipmen's Andrew Hicks. Olesnycky also delivered a 6-2, 6-2, win over Golla.
