BALTIMORE - Connor Pietrak and Alex Castro will play for fifth place on Sunday, the final day of the Loyola Men's Tennis Invitational, after winning their final match of the day for Loyola University Maryland.
The duo slipped in the championship quarterfinals earlier in the day, but rallied to beat Mount St. Mary's University's Darren Mast and Brandon Wortkotter to advance to the fifth-place match.
Mast and Wortkotter opened the contest with an 8-4 win in doubles play, but Pietrak evened the series with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Mast in the first singles match. Castro then clinched the win with a 6-4, 5-7, (12-10), win over Wortkotter.
Another Loyola duo, Blest Jones and Brett Shriver will compete for the consolation championship and ninth place on Sunday. They opened the day with a win over fellow Greyhounds Matt Beijan and Jack Shortell, and they wrapped it up by beating Jordan Kuchta and C.J. Cash.
Olesnycky delivered two singles wins Saturday despite his team falling in the overall competition. He outlasted Morgan State University's Terry Hoeppner, 4-6, 6-2, (10-8), in the day's final singles match.
