Fairfax, Va. - Sunday's rain washed away final-day play for the men's tennis team at the two-day George Mason Invitational. The Greyhounds had two players -- Keyan Sanai in Flight A and Connor Lisco in Flight B -- complete Saturday's first-round play unbeaten and Sanai combined with Dan D'Agostino for Loyola's only win in doubles, that coming in Flight B.
Sanai defeated George Mason's Karla Babin (6-2, 6-7, 1-0 [10-5]) and Kevin McMillen (6-3, 6-3) in his singles matches Saturday to reach the unplayed Flight A Championship. Also in the flight, Bobby Gorczakowski lost to Mike Blake (6-3, 6-3) of Mount St. Mary's and beat MSM's Mike Zabetakis (6-2, 6-3).
In Flight B, Lisco defeated Taylor Sargent (3-6, 7-6, 1-0 [10-4]) and Sam Coster (6-2, 6-1) of George Mason to reach the final of his flight. Splitting their matches in the flight were D'Agostino who lost to Patrick Mulquin (6-1, 6-4) of George Mason and defeated Mount St. Mary's Patrick Plastow (6-7, 7-6, 1-0 [10-4]) and J. Pierce Norton, who beat MSM's Patrick Plastow (6-2, 6-1) and lost to GMU's Patrick Mulquin (7-5, 6-3).
Flight C play had three Greyhounds splitting their matches. Ryan Fitzgerald defeated MSM's James Bartolozzi (6-1, 6-2) and lost to the Patriots' Mike Phaup (7-5, 7-5), Patrick Glaessner beat The Mount's Jastin Mostowtt (6-1, 6-3) and lost to Steve Hyre (6-2, 6-1) of George Mason and Phil Vavelidis lost to the Patriots' Mike Phaup (6-4, 6-2) and defeated MSM's James Battolozzi (6-2, 6-2).
In doubles, Sanai and D'Agostino would have reached the finals of Flight B by virtue of their win over Coster and Leonard of George Mason, 9-8. Other doubles results were Norton and Gorczakowski dropping their match in Flight A to McMillen and Borsangi of George Mason (8-4) and Glaessner and Vavelidis losing to The Mount's Plastow and Marinucci, 8-4, in Flight C.
