Tennis Schedule Commences At Bucknell Quad

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland's 2012-2013 tennis schedule kicked off Friday as the Greyhounds competed at the Bucknell Quad.

Olivia Ott and Megan Hahn advanced to the semifinals of the women's doubles draw with a pair of wins Friday afternoon. The duo defeated Christie Schneider and Elizabeth Morgan of Bucknell, 8-2, in the opening round and then topped Indiana University Pennsylvania's Tanya Timko and Emilia Osbourne, 8-6, to move on to the semifinal.

In the same doubles draw, a pair of Loyola teams will face off in the consolation semifinals. Gabriella DeCarvalho and Meredith Dwyer will take on teammates Haleigh Morgus and Emily Hughes.

On the singles' courts, Hughes outlasted Bucknell's Lydia Colvin, 6-2, 6-7 (10-7) to move on to the quarterfinals of the Flight "A" Singles. Hahn also advanced with a bye in the flight. Morcus, however, fell in a super-tiebreaker, 7-5, 2-6, (10-6) to Bucknell's Elena Vidrascu.

Claire Oswald and Olivia Ott moved on in the Flight "B" Singles draw. Ott topped Danielle Gryckiewicz of St. Francis (Pa.), 6-3, 3-6, (10-4), and Oswald was a 6-0, 7-5 winner against Bucknell's Kristen Bishof. IUP's Emilia Osbourne got past Loyola's Scarlett Hoy, 6-3, 6-2.

Dwyer moved on to the semifinals of the Flight "C" Singles with a bye, but DeCarvalho lost to Bucknell's Claudia Silvers, 6-2, 6-3.

On the men's side, Keishi Goto and Ryan McFarland won their first match in doubles play, 8-5, over Niagara's Mike Mucci and Matt Bojanowsi. Bucknell's Octavio Canive and Kyle Rosen topped Loyola's Greg Olesyncky and Connor Pietrak, 8-3, but the Greyhounds' team rebounded to beat St. Francis' Andres Rosa and Kevin Pijper, 8-2, to advance to the consolation semifinals.

Also in doubles action, Jeff DeSanto and Tim Dowd, as well as Alex Castro and Jordan Kuchta, lost a pair of matches.

Olesyncky was narrowly edged, 7-5, 3-6, (10-8), by Bucknell's Kelly Morque in the Flight "A" Singles, while Pietrak lost, 6-0, 6-0, to Bucknell's Nick Byble. Canibe beat Kutcha, 6-3, 6-1, as well.

Castro fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to Niagara's Lorenz Scwejer, in the Flight "B" Singles, and Goto was defeated, 6-0, 6-0, by the Purple Eagles' Mathieu Lacacse.
