LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis concluded a weekend road trip to Central New York on Sunday, sweeping Siena College. The men's team turned in a 6-1 victory, and the women were 5-2 winners.
The Greyhounds men swept all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead in the contest.
Blest Jones and Brett Shriver dropped Siena's No. 1 team of Alesandro Saglia and Diego Lebron, 6-3, while Jordan Kuchta and C.J. Cash finished off Peter Galante and Alex Reed, 6-2, at No. 3. Tyler Blessing and Greg Olesnycky completed the sweep with a 7-5 victory at No. 2 over Jace Koretz and Evan Nierman.
Siena claimed its lone win in No. 1 singles where Saglia held off Kuchta's rally in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (8). Loyola won the other five singles matches in straight-sets.
Blessing topped Koretz, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 singles, and Reid Burch posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lebron at No. 3. Connor Pietrak was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 4 against Nierman, and Jones defeated Galante, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6. Cash finished the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win at NO. 6 against Reed.
The women picked up a tight doubles point, winning two of the three flights.
Hahn took a 7-5, 6-4 decision over Garrity at No. 1 singles, but Siena won the No. 2 and 3 matches. Fukamachi outlasted Lanciano in three, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, at No. 2, and Siargh beat Hughes, 6-3, 6-1.
The Greyhounds won the three through six matches, securing the non-conference win. Morgus beat Weaver, 6-1, 6-4, and Clark did not drop a point in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Phillips. Nicole Eberle then dropped Reagan, 6-3, 6-2.
The men are back in action on Wednesday, April 20, at the U.S. Naval Academy in a 3 p.m. Patriot League match, while the women's team starts Patriot League Championships action later in the week.
