Women's Tennis Sweeps Colgate, But Men Fall

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams split decisions on the road Saturday in Patriot League action with the women winning, 7-0, and the men falling by the same score.

Amanda Lanciano and Ania Krawiec used a tiebreaker in the final point of the No. 1 doubles match to best Lauren Hyland and Jennifer Ho, 7-6 (2), leading the Greyhounds to the sweep.

Emily Hughes and Haleigh Morgus beat Katie Grant and Kaelin Brittin, 6-1, at No. 2, and Megan Hahn and Julie Clark teamed for a 6-4 victory over Kelly Klein and Hannah Fleckenstein at No. 3.

Hahn started singles off with a 6-3, 7-5, victory over Hyland, at No. 1, while Lanciano posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Ho at No. 2.

Hughes then dropped Grant, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3, and Morgus bettered Brittin, 6-2, 6-0, a slot below. Clark was a 6-2, 6-2, winner against Klein. Nicole Eberle closed singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Nicole Szczech.

In men's action, the Raiders took the doubles point with a sweep as Jacob Daugherty and Tom Haile scored a 6-1 victory over Blest Jones and Brett Shriver at No. 1. Nick Laub and Bobby Alter then posted a 6-3 win over Tyler Blessing and Greg Olesnycky at No. 2, and Jake Hirschberg and Win Reynolds were 6-1 winners over Jordan Kuchta and C.J. Cash at No. 3.

The Raiders then swept singles play, although three matches went to third-set tiebreakers.

Daugherty beat Kuchta, 6-3, 6-4, in the top flight, and Laub was a 5-7, 7-5, (10-8) winner over Blessing at No. 2.

Rosenblat beat Reid Burch, 6-4, 3-6, (10-8), at No. 3, and Alter defeated Connor Pietrak, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4. Hirschberg beat Jones, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5, and Reynolds topped Cash, 0-6, 6-4, 5-5 (3) in the final flight.

The teams stay on the road for a pair of matches tomorrow at Siena College.
