BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland men and women's tennis teams ended their road trip to New York with two tough dual match losses to Marist College.
The women's team took an early lead after taking the doubles point for the Greyhounds. In #1 doubles, freshmen Haleigh Morgus and Emily Hughes came out strong once again with a stiffling 8-2 victory over the Red Foxes. Another standout showing came in #3 doubles where Scarlett Hoy and Tiffany Ash sealed the doubles point for Loyola with an 8-2 win.
The Greyhounds extended their lead heading into singles with a solid performance from freshman Megan Hahn, as she won at #1 singles, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Marist heated up starting at #2 singles as they took the next four to take the victory for the match. Greyhounds' Tiffany Ash added an additional point for Loyola with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at #6 singles, but it wasn't enough as Marist ended on top, 4-3.
The loss moves the women's record to 12-4 for the season. Their next match is back on Butler Courts as the Greyhounds matchup against Towson University on Tuesday. Start time is set for 3:15 p.m.
The men's team had a tough matchup against the Red Foxes Sunday, as they fell 7-0. Marist took the early lead and momentum with three doubles victories moving into single matches. The Red Foxes never looked back taking the rest of the matches for the day. Senior captain Bobby Gorczakowski started the Greyhounds off in singles play at #1, but fell 6-2, 6-1.
The men's record is now 10-6 for the season as they travel back home for their next match. The Greyhounds meet up with Dickinson College on Wednesday at Butler Courts. Start time is set for 3:15 p.m.
