VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova University women's tennis team used the doubles point to edge Loyola University Maryland, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon, winning two of the three doubles matches to earn the opening point en route to the win.
The teams played to a 3-3 draw in singles play with the Greyhounds earning wins at No. 1, 2 and 4.
Megan Hahn beat Tori Smith, 7-6 (5), 6-4, in the top flight, and Amanda Lanciano topped Lindsey Evans, 6-4, 7-6 (5), in the second. Morgus was then a three-set winner over Samantha Schafter, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, at No. 4.
On the men's side, Villanova also had a 2-1 advantage in doubles play, parlaying the early lead into a 6-1 overall victory.
Blest Jones then used a super-tiebreaker for a 6-1, 2-6, (10-5) victory at No. 5 over Jimmy Purdy.
The women's team returns to action on Tuesday, April 12, when it travels to Easton, Pennsylvania, for a 3:30 p.m. Patriot League match at Lafayette College. The men's side resumes play when both squads are in Hamilton, New York on Saturday, April 16, to face Colgate University.
