Men's Tennis Downs Catholic 8-1

WASHINGTON, DC - The men improved to 9-5 on the season with a non-conference defeat of Catholic Thursday afternoon, in Washington, DC.

The Greyhounds swept the Cardinals in doubles, going 3-0 starting with Keyan Sanai and J. Pierce Norton's 8-6 defeat of Daniel Valverde and Mike Schinella in No. 1 doubles.

Kevin Zingler and Dan D'Agostino then defeated Joe Gribin and Mike Reaney 8-0 in No. 2 doubles and Matt McDaniel and Bobby Gorczakowski finished off doubles with an 8-3 defeat of Rubin Tian and Kyle Kramer.

Loyola led 3-0 going into singles. The Cardinals were finally able to get on the board when Valverde defeated Sanai 6-1, 6-2 in No. 1 singles, but that would be Catholic's lone point of the match,

Norton defeated Zingler 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles and was followed by Zingler's 6-2, 6-1 win over Gribbin in No. 3 singles.

McDaniel won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot against Reaney. Gorczawkoski then shut out Tian for a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 5 singles tilt and Jamie Russo closed out with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Kramer in No. 6 singles.

The Loyola men will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to area rival Towson.
