BALTIMORE, Md. - The Greyhounds were edged out by the Mount Wednesday afternoon on the Butler Courts, as Mount St. Mary's defeated both the men and the women by scores of 4-3.
The men are now 8-5 on the season while the women fell to 11-5.
Sanai evened the score at 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Patrick Plastow in No. 1 singles, but the Mount took back the lead when Norton dropped his match to Salomon, falling 4-6, 6-2, 1-6.
Zingler then fell to Mostowtt in three sets, going down 4-6, 6-4, 2-6 in the No. 3 spot.
Wins in Nos. 4 and 5 singles by Matt McDaniel (2-6, 6-1, 6-2 over Maranucci) and Bobby Gorcazkowski (6-0, 6-4 over Place) evened the score up the score at 3-3. But Jamie Russo dropped the No. 6 singles tilt 6-0, 6-3 to Matt Black.
The Loyola women struggled out of the gate, getting swept in doubles.
Rachel Janasek and Kerri Swan fell 8-3 to Emily Bolchoz and Renee Dean in No. 1 doubles. Chelsea Johnson and Emily Grugan overtook Joy Johnson and Andie Keyser-Baker 8-3 in No. 2 doubles and Judy Lite and Scarlett Hoy were defeated 8-0 by Carly Landini and Emma Haley.
Janasek then defeated Johnson 6-2, 6-3 to begin singles play. But Swan fell to Bolchoz in the No. 2 singles tilt, 6-1, 6-1.
Joy Johnson bounced back with a No. 3 singles win over Kelly Conroy (6-1, 6-0), but Loyola dropped the Nos. 4 and 5 matches to give the Mount the win.
Keyser-Baker was defeated by Landini in No. 4 singles, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) and Lite fell to Dean 7-5, 6-3 in No. 5 singles.
Hoy got Loyola's final point in No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat over Grugan.
