EMMITSBURG, Md. - The Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team swept host Mount St. Mary's University, 7-0, but the Mountaineers' men edged the Greyhounds, 4-3.
Loyola's women lost just one match, a doubles contest, but the Greyhounds won the other two pairs matches to take the doubles points.
Emily Hughes and Haleigh Morgus edged Brittany Poje and Emma Blake, 7-6 (2), to win the No. 2 doubles match, and Megan Hahn paired with Julie Clark at No. 3 doubles to beat Sam Barbato and Isabella Draper, 6-3.
Hahn opened singles play with a 7-6 (2), 7-5, win over Kelly Smith in the top flight, and Amanda Lanciano topped Poje, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 2 singles.
Hughes beat Erin Benefiel, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3 singles, and Morgus topped Blake, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 4. Clark was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Draper, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 singles, and Nicole Eberle knocked off Barbato, 6-1, 6-3, in the final match.
Kuchta registered a 7-6 (0), 6-4 victory over Austin Blake at No. 1 singles, but the Mountaineers picked up three-set wins at No. 2 and 3 singles and a straight-sets No. 4 victory.
Blest Jones recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Brandon Wortkotter at No. 5 singles, and Cash beat Landis, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
