Fairfield Sweeps Men's & Women's Tennis

BALTIMORE - Forced to play indoors due to morning rain showers in the area, Fairfield University defeated the Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams on Saturday.

The Stags men defeated the Greyhounds, 7-0, and the women were 5-0 winners.

Tiffany Ash and Andie Keyser-Baker combined for the Greyhounds' lone win of the day. They topped Alyssa Ruiz and Victoria Pirrello, 8-2, in the No. 3 doubles spot.

Fairfield, however, won the doubles point with wins in No. 1 and No. 2. Kristen Liu and Sharissa Ryan defeated Scarlett Hoy and Judy Lite, 8-5, in the No. 2 spot, and Monica Yajima teamed with Caroline Emhart, 8-5, in the top slot.

Yajima beat Janasek, 6-3, 6-4, in No. 1 singles, and Sabrina Fedele fell, 6-4, 6-2, to Ryan in No. 2. Liu beat Hoy, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5, in No. 3, and Emhardt was a 7-6 (6), 7-5, victor over Johnson in No. 4. The No. 5 and 6 singles matches were not able to finish due to time constraints.

On the men's side, Fairfield swept all nine matches.

Joe Michalsin and Erik Kremheller defeated J. Pierce Norton and Kevin Zingler, 8-5; Dennis Zlobinski and Rob Ferrante topped Keyan Sanai and Dan D'Agostino, 8-5; and, Dan Sauter and Bjorn Merinder beat Bobby Gorczakowski and Jamie Russo, 8-2.

In singles action, Sanai was edged, 3-5, 6-1, 10-8, by Michalsin, and Sauter defeated Norton, 6-2, 6-0.

Zlobinski defeated Zingler, 6-3, 6-2, and Kremheller topped Gorczakowski, 6-4, 6-4. Reece Brault rounded out the sweep by the Stags with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Connor Lisco.
