BALTIMORE - Mile markers were met Monday afternoon as the Loyola University Maryland men and women's tennis teams defeated MAAC opponent Rider University, 7-0, at Butler Courts.
The sweep for the men's team was led by senior Bobby Gorczakowski. After winning in doubles, 8-6, alongside Connor Pietrak, Gorczakowski collected his 58th victory for his career becoming the winningest doubles player at Loyola, passing Nick Bowers and Dan Schiemel's mark of 57 from 2001-2005. He also claimed his 58th victory with his singles win, going 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, for the match, placing Gorczakowski second on the all-time singles wins list for a career behind John McConnell (1999-2003) who has 66 wins.
Along with Gorczakowski, teammates Pietrak, Harrison Kunkel, Jordan Kuchta, Connor Lisco, and Greg Olesnycky, all claimed victories in singles and doubles for the day. Kuchta and Olesnycky played impressively in doubles, winning 8-0. #5 singles Lisco stayed hot, winning 6-0, 6-0, against the Broncs.
The 7-0 sweep for the Greyhounds marks a milestone for the program as they reach 300 wins through 34 seasons. The victory moves their record to 7-3 for the season.
The women's tennis team move their win-streak to three as they took down Rider, 7-0, this afternoon, moving their record to 7-2 for the season. The victory is the program's 350th win through 25 years. Their overall record is 350-103.
In doubles, the ladies took the early point as all three matches were won, 8-1.
The men and women will continue their homestand as Randolph Macon travels to Baltimore on Wednesday, April 3, for an evening duals matchup. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
