Janasek, Ott Set Doubles Record In Tennis' Sweep

BALTIMORE - Rachel Janasek and Olivia Ott set a Loyola University Maryland women's tennis record on Sunday afternoon, winning their 22nd match of the season at No. 1 doubles, as both the Greyhound men's and women's teams defeated visiting Maryland-Eastern Shore, 7-0, on Butler Courts.

Janasek and Ott teamed to defeat the Hawks' Solana McMillan and Shamara McKenzie, 8-0, to set a record for No. 1 doubles tandems in a season.

They led a sweep of the doubles point, as Jackie Lionetta and Rachel Bergeron defeated Enjoli Simmons and Raveena Sharma, 8-0, at the No. 2 spot, and Sabrina Fedele and Tiffany Ash earned the win by default at No. 3 doubles.

Janasek then won, 6-2, 6-1, over McMIllan at No. 1 singles, and Ott was a 6-1, 6-0, winner at NO. 2 against McKenzie.

Lionetta topped Simmons, 6-2, 6-2, in the third flight, and Bergeron defeated Sharma, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4. Gabriella DeCarvalho knocked off Anna Kalenta, 6-0, 6-0, in the fifth slot, and Ash was a winner by default in the sixth.

The Loyola men were also victors, 7-0, against UMES.

Keishi Goto and Ryan Fitzgerald defeated Malcolm Johnson and Livin Costica, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles, and Eric Michaelis teamed with Jeff DeSanto to beat Wirlen Elame and Wayne Heath, 8-2, at No. 2. Keyan Sanai and Bobby Gorczakowski picked up a win by default in the third slot.

Sanai dropped Johnson, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, and Goto banked Costica, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2. Michaelis topped Elame, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3, and Fitzgerald defeated Heath, 6-1, 6-0, in the fourth slot. DeSanto then blanked Christopher Charles, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5, and Gorczakowski was a default winner in the sixth spot.

With the wins, the women improved to 13-3 overall this year, while the men upped their mark to 7-3.
