LUTHERVILLE, Md. - Rain pelted the Baltimore area on Thursday, but the Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams stayed dry indoors at the Greenspring Racquet Club, and the Greyhounds defeated visiting La Salle University.
The women's team posted a 6-1 victory, and the men were 5-2 winners.
The men's team won the first two doubles matches to take the doubles point as Connor Pietrak and Brett Shriver took down Mark Robinson and Dale Petterman, 8-4, at No. 2, and Alex Castro and John Ferruzzi topped Thomas McLeod and Liam Rodrigues, 8-5, at No. 3. With the doubles point in hand, the No. 1 match was not finished.
La Salle earned singles wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots, but the Greyhoudns swept the other four matches to seal the victory.
Pietrak beat Peterman, 6-3, 6-2, and Blest Jones was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 4 over Robinson. Shriver knocked off McLeod, 6-2, 6-1, and Castro rounded out the quartert with a 6-1, 6-1, victory over Rodrigues.
Loyola's two through six players were all straight-sets winners against the Explorers. Lanciano defeated Ally Santerelli, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2, and Emily Hughed topped Jade Smith, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3.
