Tennis Sweeps UMES In Second Half Of Doubleheader

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland men and women's tennis teams swept the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday, after splitting matches against St. Bonaventure earlier in the day.

In the morning match against the Bonnies, the women’s squad won, 4-3, moving their record to 3-2. Haleigh Morgus, Olivia Ott and Emily Hughes won their singles matches for the Greyhounds. Ott took it into extra sets, defeating Taylor Cole 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.

In doubles, Morgus and Hughes swept St. Bonaventure, 8-0, while Katelyn Hissong and Ania Krawiec won, 8-7 (5).

In the second match against UMES, the women defeated the Hawks 7-0, improving to 4-2 on the season. 

The women will travel to Towson on Wednesday to take on the Tigers at 3:15 p.m.

In the first match of the day for the men’s team, the Greyhounds fell short losing to St. Bonaventure, 6-1.  Sophomore Alex Castro won his singles match, 6-0, 6-2. 

Later in the afternoon, Loyola’s men improved to 7-3 with a 7-0 win over UMES. John Ferruzzi won 6-0, 6-0, to lead the Greyhounds to a second-match victory.

The men return to Patriot League action on Saturday, March 29, when they host the Lafayette College Leopards at 12 p.m.
