WEST POINT, N.Y. - The U.S. Military Academy men's and women's tennis teams both defeated squads from Loyola University Maryland on Sunday, but the Greyhounds return from West Point, New York, with a 2-1 Patriot League record after scoring wins over College of the Holy Cross and Lafayette College.
The Black Knights men topped Loyola, 4-0, and the Greyhounds women fell in a tight, 4-1 contest.
Army swept all three doubles matches to earn the point in women's action, but then a give-and-take battle ensued in singles play.
Emily Hughes picked up a straight-sets win, 6-3, 6-2, over Hannah Dahlem at No. 3 singles, but Army moved one point shy of clinching the match with victories at No. 2 and 5.
Ania Krawiec battled Julian Mok to a split of the first two sets, but Mok earned a third-set win to score the clinching fourth point for the Black Knights. She finished with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
In men's action, the Black Knights took the doubles point and then won three singles tilts in straight sets to earn the victory.
The Greyhounds women return to action on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when they host Towson University.
