Women's Tennis Tops Villanova; Wins Seventh-Straight Match

BALTIMORE - Sabrina Fedele earned a, 7-5, 6-4, win in a two and a half hour match at No. 3 singles to break a, 3-3, tie and give the Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team a, 4-3, victory over Villanova at Butler Courts on Wednesday.

Fedele helped the Greyhounds improve to 11-1 on the season with their seventh-straight dual match win.

Loyola started the day by sweeping the doubles point. Rachel Janasek and Olivia Ott won their 20th match, defeating Mikelle Mancini and Sydney West, 8-5.

At No. 2 doubles, Scarlett Hoy and Judy Lite knocked off Allison Solberg and Kristin Gobberg, 8-5, while Sabrina Fedele and Tiffany Ash closed out the sweep with an, 8-5, victory over Kate Pettee and Wesleigh Donadio.

Ash and Ott both earned straight-set victories in singles as well. Ash took down Villanova's Amanda Nelson, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. At No. 6 singles, Ott notched a, 6-2, 6-0, victory over Anne Cognetti.

After Janasek, Hoy and Lite each suffered losses in their singles matches, Fedele earned a hard-fought victory to bring home the win for Loyola. It the fifth-straight singles win for the reigning MAAC Player of the Week.

The women's team is back in action at Butler Courts on Saturday when they host UMES. The men's team hosts George Mason on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m.
