Women's Tennis Downed by George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. - Tough tiebreakers didn't go the Greyhounds way, Tuesday in Fairfax, Va., as George Mason handed Loyola a 6-1 loss. Loyola fell to 5-2 on the season with the loss.

The Patriots clinched the doubles point as Kiersten Pappas and Lindsay Gray dropped Rachel Janasek and Kerri Swan 8-4 and Alison Wingo and Meredith Cutchin defeated Joy Johnson and Andie Keyser-Baker 8-4.

Judy Lite and Scarlet Hoy then fell to Aryn Christman and Cece Greco 8-6.

The Patriots upped their score to 2-0 after Janasek dropped a tough tiebreaker to Gray, falling 3-6, 6-1 (4) in No. 1 singles. In the No. 2 singles tilt, Pappas defeated Swan 6-2, 6-1.

Loyola got on the board in the No. 3 singles spot, with Johnson prevailing over Wingo. Johnson went 3-6, 6-4 (7), winning the tiebreaker.

Keyser-Baker lost to Brooke Blackwell in No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-1. Lite played Christman close but ultimately fell, 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles spot.

Cutchin then notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hoy to end the day.

Men's tennis will have their turn against the Patriots today, at 3 p.m., on the Butler Courts.
