WASHINGTON, D.C - The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams swept local rival Catholic University on Wednesday, combining for a pair of 7-0 victories over the Cardinals.
Both teams won all nine flights and neither team dropped a set on the day.
The Greyhounds got the day started right on the women's side, taking all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. Olivia Ott and Rachel Janasek took the first doubles match with an 8-1 win, while Judy Lite and Scarlett Hoy, also won 8-1 in second doubles. Tiffany Ash and Sabrina Fedele rounded out the doubles matches with a 8-2 victory in third doubles.
In singles play, the Greyhounds won all six matches, dropping a total of only 13 games. Janasek defeated Margie Selinger in first singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Hoy beat Ritmarie Holden, 6-3, 6-1.
Fedele did not lose a game to Caitlin Porter in third singles, notching a, 6-0, 6-0, victory.
Ash took a, 6-1, 6-2, victory over Elaina Sceusa in fourth singles, while Lite and Ott rounded out the singles victories.
The Greyhound men also did not drop a single set on their way to the win, starting the day by sweeping the doubles matches to take the point. Kevin Zingler and Pierce Norton started the day with an, 8-5, win in first doubles. Bobby Gorczakowski and Keyan Sanai notched an, 8-3, win in second doubles, and Harrison Kunkel and Connor Lisco combined for an, 8-2, win in third doubles.
Sanai also cruised to a, 6-0, 6-3, win in first singles, while Norton fought his way to a, 7-6, 6-2, victory over Jeal Paul Roman in second singles.
Zingler took down Brian Bradley, 6-1, 6-2, in third singles, and Gorczakowski beat Joe Peters, 6-2, 6-4, in fourth singles. Lisco and Kunkel rounded out the singles wins for Loyola.
The Greyhounds are next at La Salle on Wednesday afternoon, beginning with the women's match at 2:30 p.m.
