JERSEY CITY - Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis traveled to former Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Saint Peter's University on Sunday afternoon, and the Greyhounds defeated the Peacocks, 6-1 on the men's side and 7-0 on the women's.
Saint Peter's won the men's No. 1 doubles match, but the Greyhounds lost just one point in the No. 2 and 3 matches to claim the doubles point. Jordan Kuchta and C.J. Cash dropped Jow Parades and Seba Rojas, 6-1, at No. 2, and the duo of Tyler Blessing and Greg Olesnycky swept Gabe Russotto and Doug Nover, 6-0.
In singles action, Loyola won the two through six matches.
Blessing topped Jorge Rodriguez, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2, and Reid Burch was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Parades at No. 3. Connor Pietrak defeated Rojas, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4, while Blest Jones took care of Russotto, 6-1, 6-1.
Olesnycky rallied from a first-set loss to beat Nover in a super-tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-6 (4), (10-8).
In women's action, Loyola won all nine contested matches.
Megan Hahn and Amanda Lanciano teamed for a 6-2 win over Elena McLain and Malieva Hedberg at No. 1 doubles, and Emily Hughes and Haleigh Morgus shutout Claudia Hellman and Stephanie Falcon, 6-0, at No. 2.
Lanciano kicked off singles play with a 6-0, 6-3 win over McLain, and Hughes used a super-tiebreaker third to beat Hedberg, 6-3, 6-7, (10-3), at No. 2.
Morgus then defeated Hellman, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3, and Clark was a 6-2, 6-1, winner over Falcon in the fourth slot. Eberle beat Muhammad, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 5, and Hahn completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1, win over Ressurrescion at No. 6.
Both the men's and women's teams are back in action on Wednesday, March 16, when they host Morgan State University starting at 3 p.m. at the McClure Tennis Center.
