Men's, Women's Tennis Records Wins Over John Carroll University

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Loyola University Maryland tennis teams picked up a pair of wins over John Carroll University Thursday morning at the Star Island Resort.

The Greyhounds’ men beat the Blue Streaks, 6-1, while the women recorded a 4-3 victory.

On the men’s side, Loyola captured all but the No. 1 singles point, as Jordan Kuchta and CJ Cash teamed to beat Nick Siciliano and Tyler Cole at No. 2 doubles, 8-1, and Greg Olesnycky and Matt Bejian took down Scott Adsit and Dillon O’Brien at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.

In singles, Rein Burch won over David Sinense, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 2 spot, while Connor Pietrak downed Alex Guthrie, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. At No. 4, Alex Castro beast Nick Sciliano, 6-2, 6-3; at No. 5, Jones beat Cole, 6-1, 6-2; and at No. 6, Olesnycky beat Adsit, 6-2, 7-6 (4).

For the women, Julie Clark and Nicole Eberle beat Catherine Engel and Jennifer Stroyne at No. 2 doubles, but John Carroll won the point by default, as the Greyhounds were playing short handed.

Emily Hughes, Haleigh Morgus, Clark and Eberle all won their singles matches to secure to victory for Loyola, though. Hughes beat Nicolette Bourlas in the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-2, while Morgus took down Engel with matching 6-1 scores at No. 3. In No. 4 singles, Clark bested Madi Rini, 6-3, 6-2, and Eberle beat Katherine Devine, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. Loyola’s men will return to action tonight when they take on Bethune Cookman at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida, at 5:30 p.m.
