TAMPA, Fla. - The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s tennis teams continued their winning ways on Wednesday, sweeping Augusta College on the third day of its Spring Break training trip in Florida. The men’s squad won, 6-1, at Tampa Bay – HCC – Dale Mabrey Campus, while the women won, 4-3.
Augustana won the No. 1 doubles match, but the Greyhounds picked up the next two to earn that point, as Connor Pietrak and Alex Castro defeated Jack Morkin and Carl Christensen, 8-5, before Jordan Kuchta and CJ Cash defeated Austin Shoeck and Connor Woolf, 8-1.
At No. 4 singles, Pietrak beat Christensen, 6-0, 6-2, while Castro beat Morkin 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5 and Blest Jones beat Shoeck 6-4, 6-2, at No. 6.
On the women’s side, Emily Hughes clinched the match for the Greyhounds, downing Dana Goggin at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-3.
Loyola, playing short-handed, dropped the doubles point, before Amanda Lanciano defeated Lauren Goggin, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. In No. 3 singles, Haleigh Morgus beat Mollie Magee, 6-4, 6-0, while Julie Clark downed Ali Macdonald, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4 singles.
The Greyhounds will return to action on Thursday when they face John Carroll at the Star Island Resort in Kissimmee, Florida, at 8 a.m. They will then take on Bethune Cookman at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida, at 5:30 p.m.
