ORLANDO - The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams went undefeated on Monday, the second day of their Spring Break training trip to Florida. The men's team won a pair of matches, dropping Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 6-1, and Wartburg College, 9-0; the women's side downed Wartburg, 6-0.
The men opened the day with a morning victory over Rose-Hulman. The Greyhounds dropped the No. 1 doubles match, but they picked up wins in the following two to earn that point.
Kuchta scored a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, over George Adam, and Reid Burch rallied to beat Metzger in a super-tiebreaker, 6-2, 6-7 (5), (10-4), at No. 3.
Pietrak defeated Andre Adam, 6-0, 6-1, and Castro edged Conrad, 6-7 (5), 7-5, (10-6), at No. 5. Blest Jones then beat Brendan Goldacker, 6-0, 6-1, to close the match at No. 6.
In the evening session, the short-handed women's team won all of the contested matches in straight-sets over Wartburg. Emily Hughes and Haleigh Morgus teamed for a No. 1 doubles sweep, 8-0, while Amanda Lanciano and Nicole Eberle were 8-1 winners at No. 2.
Lanciano did not drop a point, winning, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Hughes was a 6-2, 6-0, winner at No. 2. Morgus then won, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3, and Julie Clark also swept all 12 points at No. 4, winning, 6-0, 6-0.
The men's side won all nine matches against the Knights, dropping just four doubles points and 12 in singles.
Pietrak and Castro played No. 1 singles against Wartburg, winning 8-3 against Brandon Hornback and Connor Barnard; Kuchta and Cash were then 8-1 victors over Jerome Ellerby and Sam Nettleton at No. 2.
In singles action, Burch kicked things off at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hornback, and Blest Jones was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 2 against Barnard.
Olesnycky then defeated Nettleton, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3, and Matthew Bejian won, 6-2, 6-0, against Andre Green at No. 4. Cash shutout Ellerby, 6-0, 6-0, and Brett Shriver picked up a 6-0, 6-0, win against Elliott Kucheach at No. 6.
