March 1, 2013

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team defeated Morgan State University Thursday, 4-2, to raise their dual match record to 3-0.

Due to a shortage of players, the Bears defaulted #3 doubles and #6 singles.

In doubles, freshmen Haleigh Morgus and Emily Hughes clinched the point with a hard fought 8-6 victory giving the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead going to singles.

Junior Tiffany Ash started off the singles with an impressive performance against Morgan State's Tiffany Hughes, winning 6-0, 6-0. Through default, sophomore Olivia Ott won at #6 singles giving Loyola a 3-0 lead. Junior Sabrina Fedele lost a close first set, 6-4, then the second, 6-1, to move the match score to 3-1. Freshman Megan Hahn played hard at #1 singles as she fell short, 6-2, 6-3, to the Bears' Ekaterina Iakoulieva.

As darkness loomed, freshman #3 singles Emily Hughes clinched the victory for the Greyhounds with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. Freshman #2 singles player Haleigh Morgus was in a close fight in her third set, behind 3-2, when the match was pulled due to the match being decided.
