Tennis Teams Open Spring Break Trip With Split Of Griffins

ORLANDO - Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams opened its spring break training trip to the Orlando area with a split in its first two matches Sunday. The Greyhounds men defeated Chestnut Hill College, 4-3, while the Griffins down Loyola on the women's side via the same score at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.

Jordan Kuchta and C.J. Cash opened the men's match with an 8-2 win over Adam Gavin and Henry Boyle in the No. 3 doubles slot, but the Griffins responded with a victory at No. 2 doubles.

Blest Jones and Brett Shriver, however, pulled out a tiebreaker win at No. 1 doubles, besting Pierre Kohler and Jonathan Ducretot, 8-7 (4), to win the doubles point for Loyola.

Chestnut Hill scored singles win in the top three flights, but Connor Pietrak delivered a 7-6 (4), 6-3, victory over Ducretot at No. 4. Jones then downed Lucas Abe, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6, and Alex Castro decided the match with a super-tiebreaker win over Gavin, 6-4, 3-6, (10-6).

On the women's side, the Griffins won the doubles point over an injury-depleted Greyhounds squad. Emily Hughes and Julie Clark recorded an 8-3 victory over Laure-Anne Josso and Axe Owens at No. 2 doubles.

Hughes was a 6-3, 2-6, (10-8) winner at No. 3 singles, and Haleigh Morgus topped Owens, 6-3, 6-3. Clark was also a 6-1, 6-0 victor at No. 5 singles against Hayley Craskey.

The Greyhounds continue their competition tomorrow with evening matches against Wartburg College.
