Tennis Opens Southern Swing With Losses At N.C. Central

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams started their swing through North Carolina Friday evening, but the Greyhounds both sides fell to North Carolina Central University, 5-2, at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.

Jordan Kuchta and Connor Pietrak picked up the points for Loyola men, winning at No. 4 and 5 singles.

Kuchta defeated Jamal Hoyte, 6-1, 6-3, and Pietrak used a super-tiebreaker third-set to beat Fabrice George, 6-3, 4-6, 10-2. Alex Castro and John Ferruzzi were leading their No. 3 doubles match, 4-3, when the Eagles won the doubles point.

In the women's match, Emily Hughes and Ania Krawiec earned singles' victories for the Greyhounds in singles action. Hughes rallied from a first-set loss to use a supertiebreaker win in the third set to defeat Mia Ramic, 0-6, 6-1, 10-7. Krawiec won the first set, dropped the second and then eased to a win in the third, 6-4, 5-7, 10-2.
