FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Connor Pietrak delivered a straight-sets victory Sunday afternoon for the Loyola University Maryland men's tennis team, but the Greyhounds fell, 6-1, to the University of Mary Washington.
Pietrak topped Scott Buie, 7-5, 6-2, to pick up Loyola's only point of the match.
Mary Washington swept the doubles point with Evan Charles and Buie defeating Greg Olesnycky and Jordan Kuchta, 8-3, at the top spot. Stratton Gilmore and Andrew Curtis posted a similar 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Reid Burch and Brett Shriver, and Dane Lunding-Johansson teamed with Eric Hurwitz to defeat Alex Castro and John Ferruzzi, 8-1, at No. 3.
In singles action, Gilmore beat Olesnycky, 6-4, 6-2, and Lunding-Johansson topped Burch, 6-2, 6-2, in the first two flights. Charles then knocked off Shriver, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3, and Kuchta fell 6-0, 6-1, to Hurwitz at No. 4.
Blest Jones took Curtis to a third set, but the Mary Washington player won the No. 6 match, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
