CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland senior diver Michael Brown has been named the Patriot League Men's Diver of the Week for the second time this season, as announced by the league office Monday. Senior Elle Mixa and freshmen Becca Meyers and Aidan O'Hara were also included among the league's honorable mention performances.
Brown shattered his own program record in 3-meter diving on Friday at the annual Thomas Murphy Invitational. Brown won the event with a score of 299.40 to better his previous school record mark of 275.03 from 2011.
The Timonium, Md., native followed that up on Saturday by winning the 1-meter competition, as well. He earned a season-best score of 291.75 to lead the Greyhounds to a sweep of the top-three finishers in the event.
While this is the third career weekly award for Brown, it is also his second of the season. He earned the honor on October 14 after winning the 1-meter diving competition and finishing runner-up in 3-meter in the season opener against American, Catholic and George Washington.
Mixa also swept the boards in Loyola's victories over Johns Hopkins, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Marywood. Mixa won the 3-meter competition with 251.85 points and scored 251.31 points in the 1-meter competition.
In the pool, Myers won the 1650 free by more than 25 seconds (17:37.18) and claimed the 500 free victory in 5:08.23. She also finished fifth in the 200 fly in 2:15.47.
On the men's side, O'Hara was honored for winning the 200 back with a time of 1:53.24. He added second-place finishes in the 100 back (52.96) and 500 free (4:47.38).
Loyola will return to the pool this weekend when it hosts Howard on Saturday. Events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
