CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Senior Caitlin Cronin was named the Patriot League Women Swimmer of the Week, while seniors Michael Brown and Elle Mixa were tabbed the league’s men’s and women’s divers of the week, respectively, the league announced Monday.
Cronin led the Greyhound swimmers in their season-opening meet at American, winning two events and finishing second in two others. Cronin touched first in the 50 and 100 freestyle events in times of 25.01 and 53.39, respectively. She also finished second to George Washington’s Caroline Myers (1:54.73) in the 200 freestyle by one-tenth of a second, finishing the race in 1:54.83. Her other runner-up finish came in the 200 IM (2:11.31), while she also added a fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:00.43).
Brown led Loyola’s men’s squad from the platform, winning the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 279.00. He followed that up with a runner-up finish to teammate Ryan Conley in 3-meter diving, totaling a score of 244.05.
In women’s diving, Mixa led the way with a pair of top-two finishes. Mixa won the 1-meter event with a point total of 234.22, while she finished second in 3-meter diving with a score of 213.00.
This marks the first Patriot League honor for all three Greyhounds, while it is the seventh career weekly honor for Cronin, the third for Mixa and the second for Brown.
The Greyhounds will return to the pool this weekend for its annual alumni meet. Events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., on Saturday at the Mangione Pool.
