Scholz Writing U.S. Paralympics Blog

Oct. 2, 2010

Loyola University Maryland senior Philip Scholz is writing a blog for the U.S. Paralympics website. An international competitor for several years, Scholz is blind, yet he holds several American Records in various events.

Here is an excerpt from Scholz's blog post, titled, "Not the Block, but the Podium... Things Still Count":

During my nine years with the Three Village Swim Club on Long Island, my coach always had one important philosophy for us to follow for each and every race: "It's you against you... you against the clock. Don't worry about anyone else."

Being blind has sometimes made that easy for me to follow.

Now, three years since my graduation from TVSC, this philosophy still rings true. But it has been challenged, and no bigger challenge has come at me since my 400-meter freestyle race this past summer.
