Sept. 27, 2007

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola swimming and diving program will host its annual Green and Grey Meet as part of Family Weekend activities this Saturday at 1 p.m. The Greyhounds, who have been training for three weeks this semester, will get their first competition of the season and launch a new live results program as one of many upgrades for the 2007-08 season. "We are very excited to get the meet portion of our season underway," says Head Coach Brian Loeffler. "We have an extremely deep and very talented team and it will be interesting to see where we are after just a few weeks of training."

In addition to live results, which will be available for all home meets, including the 2008 MAAC Championships, a number of changes will keep Loyola's home facility state-of-the-art and up-to-date.

One new addition is the Colorado Relay Judging Platforms. The latest model will display reaction time for starts and judge relay exchanges. In addition, the Relay Judging Platforms use "speedlight" technology to assist in faster reaction times. Green LEDs light up across the front of the block and flash simultaneously with the starting system horn and strobe light. These platforms also contain a training component that allows the team to practice starts and see instant reaction times, practice relay exchanges with instant exchange splits, time open turns from when hands touch the wall to when feet leave, and time breakouts just to name a few features.

Another addition is the Keifer Advantage II Lane Lines. The new lane lines, which are the same lane lines used at 2004 Olympic Trials, include larger buoys that prevent wake from traveling between lanes.

"The upgrades made to the Mangione Aquatic Center this past summer will allow us to continue to grow as a program and give us some of the latest technology available for both meets and training.," adds Coach Loeffler. "It is very exciting that our facility is making improvements that will enhance the meet experience for both swimmers and spectators."
