Scholz Wins Two Golds, Earns Spot On World Championship Team

EDMONTON, Alberta - Loyola junior Philip Scholz won two gold and two siver medals at last weekend's Speedo CanAm Paralympic Swimming Championships and earned a place on the United States' 2009 IPC Swimming Short Course World Championships Team.

Scholz and 16 other Americans will compete at the 2009 IPC Swimming Short Course World Championships. The event will take place November 25-December 7, 2009, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

At the CanAm Championships, Scholz won the 50- and 400-meter freestyles and brought home the silver in the 100-meter butterfly and 100-meter freeestyle.

Scholz, who is legally blind, competes in the S11 category at Paralympic competitions. He holds six American records and also competed for the United States at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing, China.
